Kamogawa Odori: Traveling Along the Tokaido

The Kamogawa Odori is presented in two parts, just like Kamishichikens Kitano Odori. The first season of the dances are dedicated to a theatrical piece, emphasizing on the acting skills of the Geiko. While the second half of the dances are dedicated to their many dance skills. Last year, the Geiko of
Pontochō were inspired by a series of books about traveling on the Tokaido published in the early 19th century. It depicts the journey of two Geiko traveling the Tokaido highway, the road that once connected the then capital of Kyoto to Edo (present day Tokyo).
